Background: the program opened in 1979.

Justification:
The changes in the world economic environment, and therefore, in the Latin-American environment, have triggered new needs and opportunities that require personnel with knowledge and vision in order to drive the business and national development.
Under this context, a new proposal is submitted regarding professional personnel whose aim is to respond to the need of managing the information as a resource by efficiently using the Information and Communication Technologies.
More than having access to their data, the companies need processed and refined information that allow them to make the right decisions by maximizing the tools provided by a technological infrastructure in continuous evolution.

Objectives:

  • To offer the student an Information Systems approach-action that combines technical knowledge on technological tools with strategic and management knowledge that generate sustainable competitive advantages for companies.
  • To expand on the dynamic components of change within the organizations and their environment.
  • To offer information, product and resource management tools.

Aimed at:
There are two professional profiles that may opt to this specialization program, namely:

  • System Engineers and Informatics or Computing Science Engineers.
  • Management Profile – Professionals graduated from the courses of Management, Accounting, Economy, Administrative or Industrial Engineering, among others, that have any experience or that have participated in the development or definition of computational tools as support to the Organizational Information and have the skills in order to handle PCs software, including word processors, e-mail, Internet tools, worksheets, graphic presenters and searches in external data bases.

Graduate's Profile:
The information manager is a professional that has been trained at postgraduate level in order to face the information management based on the opportunities offered by the Information and Communication Technologies as fundamental element in order to achieve the business objectives. That is, she/he must assure that the technologies are always in concordance with the principles dealing with speed, integration, precision, competitiveness and productivity that govern today’s organizations.

The graduated will be qualified to:

  • Plan, analyze, design and develop strategic information systems.
  • Search, collect and systemize written and electronic information. Versatility in information conversion, treatment and generation.
  • Integrate the existing information. Be an expert in the potential and intrinsic value of the information the organization has.
  • Rise organizational information in conceptual maps.
  • Assemble information tracking and control systems.
  • Be proactive in the analysis of the technological advances that support communications.

The graduate may work as:

  • Director or Manger of an Organizational Information System.
  • Informational Projects Coordinator.
  • Information Systems Planner and Designer.
  • Active participant in the Research and Development areas.
  • Information Systems Consultant/Adviser.
  • Teacher.
