Background:
The Geology Department stands out for being one of the most active departments in scientific research (Geological Sciences) in EAFIT University and in the country: the research groups, Environmental Geology and the Marines Sciences Area were acknowledged as excellence groups by COLCIENCIAS context in 1996 and 2000, respectively.
The specialization in Environmental and Earth Sciences began in 1997, and the Master was authorized in 1999.
Purpose of this Program:
It is an academic – scientific program that provides advanced training in the knowledge and analysis of natural processes that model the landscapes and in the application of said knowledge to the development of research projects and to the environment management.
This type of Master Degree of Earth Sciences is the only one in the country. It’s excellent training to have a scientific approach to the problems occurring in the work field of the Earth Sciences, as well as a stage in order to continue doctoral studies. To date, about 30% of our graduates have obtained scholarships for doctoral studies both in Colombia (Universidad de Antioquia) as well as abroad (University of Illinois; University of Syracuse; University of Chicago).
EAFIT University trains masters at international level, who are able of planning, researching and publishing their research results with a wide diffusion and in great technical a/o scientific means.
Objective:
To provide training supplemented by the generation of high level knowledge in the area of The Earth Sciences, which have a particular priority in the country’s development. Provided that the academic level is high, the foreseen system allows the implementation of projects that provide a direct response to those needs faced by Colombian official and private entities as to the solution of relevant problems for the knowledge and better use of the national territory and its resources.
Aimed at:
Students who are attending their final semesters and professionals in Earth Sciences and engineering; users and researchers involved in scientific projects and studies with an environmental emphasis; individuals who work in Regional Institutes and Corporations and that take part in applied research projects; potential students of Master Degree courses in the different disciplines of Earth Sciences.
