Academic Information (Spanish):
Degree:
Specialist in Transformation Processes of Plastic and Rubber
Delivery Mode:
On campus. It includes classes, workshops and lab practices.
Duration:
3 semesters
Coordinator:
Mr. Luis Santiago Paris
E-mail: lparis@eafit.edu.co
Background: The program was opened in 1995.
In Colombia, the plastic industry has kept itself in constant growth and expansion, therefore the training and instruction requirements have increased too.
In Fact, the ICIPC (Institute of training and Research of Plastic and Rubber) has continuously provided training services through open and closed non-formal courses and through the formal post grad program in the Specialization in Plastic and Rubber Transformation Process in partnership with EAFIT.
Justification:
This may be synthesized in the needs of the local environment in order to:
- To trigger the development and research in the field of plastic materials and polymers processing.
- To contribute in order to generate an innovative and productive capacity in the plastic and rubber sector.
- To train individuals in order to supply the technical and scientific demands.
- To plan the proper and timely technological renovation and re-conversion.
- To compete with quality and prices and controlling costs.
- To train individuals in order to supply the technological demands as well as those regarding technology management.
- To favor the technological transfer through international technical cooperation.
- To contribute to improve the productivity and the competitiveness of the national industry of the plastic and rubber sector for the local and international trade.
- To design products, plants and production lines, material substitution equipment and products and processes standardization.
There is an increasingly local need of approaching development programs in the plastics sector in a pertinent manner as well as continuous and with high quality and impact on the community. This situation illustrates the need of relying on a more qualified support staff in the plastics sector.
Objectives:
- To establish the principles about the behavior and the properties of the plastic materials, their rheologic characteristics and the most important characterization methods.
- To develop the necessary knowledge and the understanding of the different transformation processes of the plastic materials, their characteristics and applications. Likewise, to recognize the technologic and advantages and restrictions and the bases regarding processes design, products and machinery.
- To propitiate deepening fields in accordance with the interests and expectations of the students concerning the polymeric materials and their processing that ends up in investigative processes and knowledge generation.
- To strength the technological and scientific innovation of the polymers processing field through research and development works.
Aimed at:
Professionals that satisfactorily have finished a Colombian bachelor's degree requiring a minimum of five years of studies, preferable in some engineering area such as Chemistry, Mechanical, Production, Industrial, Process, etc; and that happens to be interested in the handling of polymeric materials transformation processes.
Graduate's Profile:
The specialization professionals will have a suitable scientific – technological profile to face and suggest technological changes, developments and innovation of products and processes in the polymers sector.
