Background: The program opened in 2004

General Objectives:

  • The further study of the methodological/philosophic and political principles of criminal law, general crime theory and crime's legal consequences theory, leading to the training of professionals with theoretical/analytical and operative skills in order to apply their knowledge in the scope of the criminal law and to make an autonomous tracking to all scientific developments in this knowledge area.
  • To train theoretically qualified professionals in the criminal law field, able of generating independent research projects, making part of research groups and with enough suitability in order to start postgraduate studies at Master's or Ph.D. level.

Specific Objectives:

  • To study the most representative doctrines about the problem of the justification of Criminal Law.
  • To emphasize on the study of the methodological principles of the science of the criminal law, that leads to the understanding and adoption of a given methodological perspective in the criminal - legal research.
  • To approach the problem of the legitimacy of criminal law from the constitutional state model perspective. To emphasize on the knowledge of the central knowledge and problems of the crime theory and the legal consequences of the crime that lead to an adequate interpretation and application of the positive law and to the preparation of a theoretical framework for criminal - legal research.

The Specialist in Law graduated at EAFIT University will be a professional with analytical skills and capacity to understand the most important problems of the current criminal law. Likewise, she/he will be a qualified professional able of generating and developing research proposals.
