Background:
This program opened to the public in February of 2003. The internationalization processes that characterize the recent developments of the countries’ economies, as well as the advances of Economics theory and its application in the company, have given relevance to the close interrelation between the results of company management and the macroeconomic behavior of a country.

This interrelation is reflected in two forms: on one hand, entrepreneurial activity is conditioned by changes in macroeconomic aspects: credit availability, growth, and distribution of the national income, public policy on spending, and processes of industrial innovation and organization. On the other hand, national performance cannot be understood separate from the individual results of companies. This new socio-economic reality leads to a new academic issue: Business Economics, defined as the systematic use of the economic theory, mainly of the macroeconomic relations, and some instruments of quantitative analysis to develop the way in which the –public or private– company can achieve its objectives with maximum efficiency.

General Objective:
Business Economics is focused on providing professional graduates of any field with broader knowledge in the areas of Economic Sciences. Additionally, it will train students in company troubleshooting and appropriate decision making processes, in the context of more globalized economies and based on solid practical and theoretical academic background. This program intends to provide an education in economics to achieve a competitive management.

Admission requirements:
For candidates who have degrees in areas different from Economics, a preparatory cycle is mandatory. Those graduated in Economics, Business Management, International Business, and Audit, might be required to take some specific courses of the basic cycle, depending on the decision made by the Head of the Program or the Postgraduate Admission Committee.
