What is this program about?
It is about the interpretation and the analysis of the power games in modern History, foreseeing the future scenarios and consequences.
Justification:
With the specialization in Political Studies, EAFIT seeks to encourage academic spaces for the study of the socio-political and contemporary economical phenomenon based on the Geopolitical Theory, knowing that, in the new millennium context, the matter of power not only maintains an evident relevant roll in every Social formation, but also it turns into a crucial matter for reason of the occurring phenomena such as Globalization, triggered by the development of economical and techno-scientific factors with no legal backgrounds (as is the case of bio-technology, Informatics, etc) that question the structures, the schemes and the traditional operational modes. The transformation is evident and at times, alarming because of its unsuspected dimensions and strength. In our environment it implies taking an immediate position and the passive absorption by those world agents in charge of setting the pace of the process becomes the remaining alternative.
Objectives:
- To approach politics as an expression and overcoming of permanent conflict between people, human groups, and the government system of any social order.
- To give politics a context in history, culture, and in the process of the evolving human being for the construction of a comprehensive general vision of the post cold war.
- To determine the fundamental theoretical frameworks of the Geopolitics theory.
Aimed at:
Professionals from all courses who are interested in politics, understanding it as any scenario where the conflict could be solved by power or by consensus.
Graduate’s Profile:
The Specialist in Political Studies with emphasis on Geopolitics will be a professional who:
- Applies analytical capacity in his/her professional field.
- Is capable of putting in context his professional field in the regional, national or worldwide ranges, no matter what complexity it presents.
- Is able of making adequate decisions referred to a specific area of work.
- The specialist in this field could incorporate the management and comprehension of politics in his professional performance, and therefore, to put in context the professional field in the process of globalization. At the same time, it is a way of constant updating and preparing for the new challenges presented by the global economy and its alternatives.
