Eleven (11) semesters. In the ninth semester the student is placed in a Construction Company, consultant or public entity of the field, where she/he works in full time basis, developing the practice semester.
Delivery Mode:
On campus. Maximum workload is 19 credits (six courses) per semester.

Background of Program:
Opened in 1980. It is the profession that takes care of the application of the physics principles to the conception, design, construction and maintenance of infrastructure projects, which are aimed to the benefit of mankind. The communication roads, the systems of energy production, environmental sanitation and the supplying of potable water and housing are understood as infrastructure.
Objectives:
The objective of Civil Engineering is the application of the physics principles to the conception, design, construction and the maintenance of infrastructure projects, which aim to benefit mankind.
Civil Engineering is the oldest of all the engineering. The diverse branches, which nowadays are well known, emerged from Civil Engineering. It is the one in charge to conceive and to develop the infrastructure of the country; therefore it manages the highest budgets of the public investment.
Student’s Profile :
The student that enrolls in Civil Engineering should:
Be aware that their training will be focused on physics, or more explicitly in the applied physics. And also in mathematics, being this, the language of physics.
As a summary, the basic education of the engineer lies down on the so-called “Basic Sciences” and the student should therefore have good skills in these.
Graduate’s Profile:
Due to the training that was provided during his/her stay in the Institution it is expected that our graduates will carry out an excellent professional performance. This can be synthesized in the following qualities: Adequate scientific and technological level, Humanist culture, Pragmatism, Professionalism, Ethical behavior, Economic criterion, Environmental awareness, Social awareness.
An EAFIT´S Civil Engineering graduate will be qualified in order to work in the professional field in tasks related with the conception, design and construction of infrastructure projects as: housing solutions; highways and railroads; ports and airports; drinkable water supply systems; systems for handling of garbage and other waste; irrigation and drainage systems; bridges, tunnels and dams; energy generation and distribution systems of hydraulic and thermal origin. Likewise she/he will be able of working in activities of urban and regional planning and of hydraulic resources.
