What is Computer Science?
The continuous advances of science, its inventions and developments have given origin to the “Information Society”. The timely management of information in the decision-making process affects the Human Being in all his/her dimensions, from the individual, passing through groups and organizational structures, to reach more complex social structures. Tools such as the Systems Theory, the Models and the computers have played a transcendental roll in this development process. Systems Engineering is the discipline around which the potential of the information technologies are channeled and projected.
Justification:
Computer Science responds to the need of training professionals with the capacity to create, evaluate, improve, manipulate, and participate in the Informatics and communication technologies with the objective of proposing, developing, and implementing solutions to trigger the country’s development.
The effective participation of the Systems Engineer in the software production process, in administration, management and generation of Informatics projects, has contributed with the creation, upkeep, and development of software companies, allowing the export of their products and services, as well as the commercialization of technology, both inside and outside of the country.
Objectives:
The Computer Science program seeks to train professionals with an analytical capacity, positive attitude toward change, creativity, ethics, and communication skills, able of creating, implementing, improving and managing structures which allow the development of the information resources in the organizations.

Graduate’s Profile:
EAFIT`s Systems Engineer is qualified to exercise the profession in companies, in the software sector, Nets Administration, Informatics projects management; as well as in the industrial and services sector, supporting the development of information technologies as a back up to the business strategy. The Systems Engineer must be a person with qualification to:
- Propose, model, adapt, design, construct, evaluate, audit, and maintain Informatics solutions.
- Manage, plan, and coordinate the development of Informatics projects.
- Participate in research for the development of the Informatics sector.
- Manage Informatics departments.
- Work in the teaching field.
- Continue with his/her academic development.
- Manage data nets.
- Provide advising and consulting support for products and services related with the Informatics industry
