Background:

The program opened in 1982.

Purpose of this Program:

The Mechanical Engineering Program aims to train professionals with the ability to conceive, project, adapt, apply, maintain and negotiate technical systems in general with the objective of accomplishing the effective and real development of the companies they work for. The studies plan aims to achieve three main purposes, which are considered typical in the education of a Mechanical Engineering Professional:

To train individuals, not only conscious of themselves but also of their roll in society and its context.
To give a solid foundation in science and on the methods it stands, especially those that are required by a Mechanical Engineer Professional.
To offer the necessary technology to undertake the designing tasks, maintaining and projecting technical systems (machines, mechanisms, tools, engines, devices, accessories, installations, assembling, and industrial equipment).

Objectives:

The program aims towards the education of professionals capable of conceiving, designing, projecting, adapting, maintaining and negotiating technical systems, with the purpose of achieving the effective and real development of the companies they work for.

Student’s Profile:

The student who enrolls in the Mechanical Engineering program must have:

  • Intellectual curiosity for the functioning and configuration of objects and, in general, for the explanation of the phenomena of the physic world.
  • Interested in the study of the scientific bases that is the foundation of the technical developments.
  • Willingness to work in teams, with ethical and social sensitivity.
  • To have a disposition to work in activities inherent to the practice of design such as graphic expression, creativity and analysis.

Graduate’s Profile:

In his/her education, the future Mechanical engineer develops skills and qualities that allow him/her to face the different activities inherent to the profession. The skills development is considered in order to:

  • Define and solve in a practical manner the problems dealt with in engineering.
  • Be sensible to the social and technical problems related to the profession.
  • To understand the ethical implications of the engineering profession and its practice.
  • To comprehend his/her responsibility in private and public projects regarding health and security.
  • To be competent in the exercise of the profession and to recognize the need to train him/herself and to research in order to keep up and to stay active in his/her competence.
  • And it is endeavor for the development of qualities such as: Ethic, leadership, analysis and synthesis skills, integral training, responsibility, and social solidarity and capacity in order to work in interdisciplinary programs.
