Duration:
Eleven (11) semesters, in the ninth one, the student takes on practice semester working in national or international companies, universities, Research Institutes, in the creation of his/her own company, advisement and work in PYMES (Small and medium companies in Colombia).
Delivery mode:
On campus. Maximum workload is 19 credits (six courses) per semester.

Background:
This is the first program of this nature in Colombia: its aim is to create engineers capable of bringing the latest manufacturing technologies into use, to meet the challenges that industry faces as a result of globalization. Opened in 1979, with the technical advisement and the economical support from the German Federal Republic through the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zuzammenarbeit (GTZ), and also support from “Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule” and “RuhrUniversität Bochum”.
Initially seven of our professors were trained with a Masters level in different disciplines such as: tool machines, manufacturing processes, metallic materials, systematic productions, industrial control, automatic controls, and operations research.
The German Government donated all the equipment of the Machine – Tools and Control and Regulation laboratories.
With the purpose of accomplishing a better skillfulness and capacity for our Colombian professors, inter-changes are carried out with German teaching personnel, economical help is offered for the participation of Colombian personnel in seminaries at the national and international level, and also economical and technical support is offered for the development of projects meant for future applications at the industrial level.
Purpose of this Program:
The Production Engineer determines the most effective way of combining people, machines, materials, information, and energy in order to design a process or to manufacture a product. The Production engineers plan, design, tune up, control, and manage integrated production systems.
Justification:
Production Engineering aims to train professionals who handle in an integral way the different aspects on the production processes and that, with creative and dynamic criteria, can present realistic solutions according to the environment in which they work.
Student’s Profile:
The student who enrolls in the Production Engineering program must have the following characteristics:
- Aptitudes for physics and mathematics
- Analytic capacity
- Creativity
- Team work capacity
- Managing and decision-making capacity
Graduate’s Profile:
The professionals who graduate from the Production Engineering program will have an adequate administrative and a scientific technological profile to take on and suggest industrial technological changes. She/he will be able to perform activities such as: planning, programming and production control organization of the materials management systems, improvement of the manufacturing processes and processes, the setting up of modern quality systems, technology negotiation, logistic and management of logistic operations, environmental management and creation of companies. Thus, the Production Engineer will be capable of working in the different kinds of manufacturing and services industries in the following occupational profiles: Production Manager; Factory Manager; Projects Engineer; Quality manager.
