What is Public Accountancy?
It is a professional activity responsible of handling decision-making information systems in the organizations; so that society can be assured that the economic information submitted by the companies is real, in compliance with the Colombian Accounting Regulation, and truly reflects the situation of the company.

What does that mean, being a Public Accountant?
It is an individual who, through a registration in the Central Council of Accountants, once proved professional competence, is awarded the power to testify to the appropriateness of the issues under his/her field, i.e. to assess economic and financial information, to perform activities related to Accounting, information systems, finance, costs, legal aspects, and to do research, teaching, and writing on the subject. Furthermore, the Accountant must be a supporting and participant actor of strategic decisions. It implies a solid academic preparation and a deep knowledge of the firm and its environment.

Modern Public Accountants must have a global vision of the business, linked to a strategic perception and location of the business within a global context. And what is more important, to have a clear dimension of the key role that human resources play in the generation of value for the company and for society as a whole. Great men linked by great ideals make up the world leader companies.

Objectives:

  • To develop critic analytic criteria to assess the economic, political and social problems of the country and its environment.
  • To foster change in economical and political situations, through the continuous updating of knowledge.
  • To educate in the respect of different approaches associated to his/her training area through the understanding of the disciplines related to his/her activity.
  • To perform in an ethical and responsible way, according to the values and principles that govern the Colombian society.
  • To debate issues related with the profession through the argumentation and proposition of alternatives, always framed in the respect and tolerance for others’ ideas.
  • To solve problems in changing situations through the assessment of various choices and the analysis of their consequences.
  • To develop skills in team working
  • To incorporate the technologic developments in the design of information/control and management systems.

Graduate’s Profile:
The Public Accountant graduated from EAFIT will be qualified for:

  • Designing, managing and assessing the information/control and management systems that support economic/financial and strategic decisions.
  • Analyzing, certifying and ruling on economic and social oriented information.
