Strategic Plan 2006 – 2012
During the past ten years, the university has consistently carried out its objective of self-regulation, consisting of a continuous evaluation-planning process involving the whole institution. This exercise has achieved an increasing commitment from all the academic and administrative units, as well as students, aimed to the constant upgrading of internal processes. These are some of the results: the administrative re-organization, the creation of the School of Science and Humanities, greater curricula flexibility, new graduate programs in the Humanities field, and the latest achievement, the Ph.D program in Business Administration, the first of its kind in Colombia.
On the cultural side, the creation of the Symphony Orchestra and the University Press are worth noting. Around them, very rich cultural activities have taken place.
In 2003 the Ministry of Education awarded EAFIT Institutional accreditation, which more than the recognition of quality, implies a commitment with continuous improvement. In structuring the current Strategic Plan, two essential aspects were taken into consideration: the establishing of objectives and priorities regarding their feasibility, given the uncertainty characteristic of a globalizing world; and the defining of development axis to convey the functions of teaching, research and extension.
The objective of the Strategic Plan 2006 -2012 is to reach preeminence, that is, the recognition of superior quality by the academic community in the region. It will be built on three strategic axes: learning, discovery, and commitment. Learning is conceived as the life-long process of acquiring knowledge. Discovery, as the constant activity of formulating questions and search for answers, and commitment in two senses: internally, as the involvement of all members with the academic objectives, and externally, the projection of the university to the community around it.
