Before joining EAFIT, Nicolas Pinel was a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) in Seattle (Washington State, USA), where he participated in collaborative projects with the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB). He earned a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Washington with emphasis in Astrobiology. Nicolas has extensive computational, bioinformatic, field and laboratory experience with organisms as diverse as microalgae, human viruses, extremophiles (thermophiles, halophiles, acidophiles, etc.), anaerobic bacteria, marine yeast, and simbiotic systems. He is passionate about sharing the wonder of the natural world and the fascination of the process of discovery with students of all levels.
