About Medellín

Because it is located 1,538 meters (5,043 feet) above sea level, Medellín enjoys a temperate climate with temperatures ranging from 18 to 28 degrees Celsius (64 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit) and boasts a yearlong calendar of cultural, recreational, sporting and business events and activities. The city was founded on November 2, 1675, and is home to some 3.8 million inhabitants taking into account the surrounding suburbs, which makes it Colombia’s second largest after Bogotá, the nation’s capital.
Medellín enjoys a privileged location in a valley nestled amid the Andes’ Cordillera Central range and its broad range of productive activities makes it one of the country’s hubs for commerce, industry and technological development.
The city is home to clusters of corporations and institutions in the electricity; textile and clothing; fashion and design; construction; tourism, fairs and convention industries; and health and dental services, which work together to create a favorable business environment and improve performance, competitiveness and profitability.
It also hosts world-class events such as the Flower Festival, International Poetry Festival, International Tango Festival, Medellín Book Fair, Colombiamoda and Colombiatex.
