The university has relied for several years on selfevaluation to review its processes, identify strengths and weaknesses and establish action plans for improvement. This mechanism is meant to ensure that its actions are carried out under the highest standards.

That commitment was rewarded when the university was granted Institutional Accreditation in 2003 for a period of six years. At the time, EAFIT was the only private institution in Antioquia to have attained that public recognition for its outstanding quality.
EAFIT later became the first Colombian university to have its Institutional Accreditation renewed until 2018 – via National Education Ministry resolution No. 1680 issued on March, 16, 2010.
According to then-Education Minister Cecilia María Vélez White, who awarded the university that latter distinction, EAFIT passed its accreditation review with flying colors and has become a model for other institutions due to its continuous improvement processes and efforts to boost quality and achieve higher standards of excellence.
It is clear that renewal of its accreditation was the product of EAFIT’s commitment to excellence over its more than 50-year history.
Our commitment to continuous improvement is also evident in our undergraduate programs and that is why 13 of the 19 existing programs in that category are accredited. In 2011, Mathematical Engineering, Communications Studies and Political Science also will seek that recognition, which is voluntary.
However, accreditation is not only of concern to the academic department. The Admissions and Registrar’s Office, the Administration and Finance Division and the Human Development-University Wellbeing Division, which have Icontec’s ISO 9001:2008 certification; and the Laboratory Center, several of whose laboratories (Materials; Metrology; and Soils, Concrete and Pavement) are accredited; also validate EAFIT’s commitment to maintaining high quality standards.
