Cultural Life

Universidad EAFIT - English version - Cultural life

The cultural area offers an opportunity for the university to establish links with its different publics, with the campus serving as a setting in which the university community and the city can enjoy a cultural agenda that includes cinema, music, the plastic arts, literature and the theater, among other options.

These alternatives serve as catalysts for promoting cultural expression and also are key educational ingredients for students, employees, graduates, retirees and the community at large. They also allow EAFIT to consolidate itself as an important cultural center in Medellín with national and international stature.

Cultural Agenda

EAFIT’s student groups are an avenue for students to undertake activities and efforts aimed at achieving a common objective. These groups are made up of individuals with similar tastes, values or beliefs who
come together to establish their own identity and have a sense of belonging that strengthens their commitment to their projects.

Their interests, whether academic, ideological, political, artistic, sporting, or related to tutoring, health or volunteer activities, are translated into initiatives that promote active participation, bolster leadership skills and make an important contribution to the university’s academic, sporting and cultural agenda. Those groups are: Organización Estudiantil, Tutores, Club de Mercadeo, Periódico Estudiantil Nexos, TVU, Aiesec, Grupo Proyecciones Capellanía and Grupo de Proyección Gerencial (GPG).

Arts Center

The Student Development Department understands the educational process to encompass different aspects of the human condition, from social, emotional and intellectual factors to the economic component and family relations. It is therefore important for students to have support in overcoming whichever obstacles may interfere with their success.

With that goal in mind, this division provides students with a space for reflection that encourages them to come up with questions, express their difficulties and reconsider their decisions.

Support, coaching and orientation is provided through induction and training programs for undergraduates, support to student groups, workshops that encourage reflection during the pre-practice stage, psychological and academic counseling sessions and vocational orientation offices, a study techniques workshop, individual and group therapy, interviews with candidates for leadership scholarships, as well as forums, seminars and workshops that encourage reflection.

Chaplaincy services are linked to this department.

EAFIT Symphony Orchestra

Strengthening the body and spirit and generating lifelong habits that help individuals achieve a balance in their physical and mental health are objectives the university pursues through the Sports Department
and which address the needs of the community.

Meeting that goal requires designing and coordinating sports programs that are formative, representative and recreational and which include chess, track and field, basketball, soccer, rugby,
taekwondo, swimming, tennis, Ultimate and volleyball.

Book Publishing

The university firmly believes that creativity and expression play a part in an individual’s all-round development. In that sense, cultivating cultural and artistic skills gives students, employees, retirees and their families and the public at large new ways to appreciate life and art. Classes in jewelry making, film appreciation, dance, photography, painting, creative and contemporary dance, Middle Eastern dance and vacation camp for children are among the recreational activities offered by the Artistic Development Department.

Members of the university community also can belong to different groups that provide an outlet for artistic expression in areas such as music, dance, theater, literature and bird watching.

Other Literary Actions

Rather than focusing strictly on treating patients, EAFIT’s Medical Service and Occupational Health Department is oriented to promote self-care and disease prevention.

The programs and services offered by this department include general medical check-ups, dental exams and nutritional consults; prevention campaigns targeting members of the university community and their relatives; first aid; a health services directory; and activities to promote healthy habits that, in turn, improve work and study conditions for the community.

Some of these activities include vaccination campaigns and blood drives, the Health Festival and forums, workshops and other preventative medicine programs.
