The group seeks to facilitate resources and environment for the achievement of excellence with the scientific and technological knowledge. There fore allowing the development of better products both from a user perspective as well as from an industry standpoint; taking for advantage of the capabilities and skills acquired within the context of the product design engineering academic program.
While pursuing excellence within the field of design engineering, the group is a part of the quality and industrial technological development program within the engineering division of Colciencias (Colombian agency for the support of science and technology).
The group is currently composed by team of thirteen professors/researchers (four PhD, nine MSc), with a résumé of 42 journal publications, 47 conference papers, 15 published books, 26 chapters within published books, 70 advice projects, 13 technological products amongst others.
In addition the GRID has developed in collaboration with local businesses over 20 projects, disposes of 12 laboratories centered around the delivery and service of mobility related systems, analysis and simulation, CAD/CAE/PLM, mechatronics, product development, reverse engineering, technological surveillance advanced education.
The groups’ main capabilities lie within the application of tools and design methods, research within the field academically validated product development methodologies, dominion of CAD/CAE/PLM, advanced capabilities in terms of developing models and functional prototypes out of design concepts, experience in the execution of multidisciplinary and inter-institutional projects and the experience in the field of consulting and advising.
The enhancement and expansion of our knowledge based with the aim of providing feedback to industry, academia, and society on both regional national and international scale. Research is centered upon innovation in products and systems, and their relationship with people, environment, and the industrial processes that lead to their creation.
