1993

EAFIT University begins International Business education at the undergraduate and graduate level.

2006

The University‘s strategic Development Plan for 2006-2012, includes the design and creation of an MIB program.

2008

The Department‘s research group in international studies produced a significant number of high quality research which led to its classification in a high-ranking category within the national system for scientific research.

The recognition of the high quality of the deparment‘s research output laid the groundwork for the design of the Master Program.

   2011

   Founding of the MIB program.

   2017

Redesing of curriculum of the MIB Program and accreditation of        the program, developing a highly flexible program responding to the    needs of national and international students.

Three aspects became fundamental for curricular design:

  • The state-of-the-art of international business education and research in the international context.
  • The particular requirement of international business postgraduate education within the context of Colombia.
  • The imprint of international business education from the standpoint of Universidad EAFIT.

It soon became clear that the MIB was a unique educational offer, not only in Colombia but in Latinamerica due to its highly specialized content which differentiated it from the more general and functional content of a master in international business management offered by some universities in Latinamerica. Such specialization could only be reached by designing a master program tailored to the needs of the international business undergraduate student.

Designing an international competitive master program also required the cooperation of international partners. The Department explored existing international cooperation partners of the University and the different academic network contacts of its faculty and envisioned potential partners. This led to a culturally diverse and highly competent teaching body and made it possible to arrange double-degree agreements with top universities in international business education globally.

After two years, since the program was initially discussed in the Department, it was in August 2010 that the program received the official acceptance notification by the Ministry of Education.
