MSc. in Economics Leveling Cicle

Master in Economics

Leveling Cicle

The leveling courses will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m., and will comprehend the following areas:

Mathematics
With this course it is intended that the student obtains the necessary fundaments in mathematics to be able to approach different economic topics. This course will develop the student’s skills in mathematical and abstract reasoning and will cover topics in differential and integral calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, difference equations, and mathematical economics.

Econometrics
This course is an essential part of the training in economics, given that it allows the student to use economic models in the analysis of real situations. This is an introductory course and will serve as fundament for more advanced courses in econometrics.

Microeconomics
Understanding the way that markets behave and how they are organized constitutes an important tool to analyze how the entire economic system works. This, together with the study of how agents behave and interact in these markets, makes the course in microeconomics a fundamental component in economic analysis.

Macroeconomics
In a globalize world, every professional needs to know, besides how firms behave, the context in which they operate, that is, what happens with the economic-related exogenous elements that can affect, directly or indirectly, the planned course of these firms. In this sense, macroeconomics, as a main area of economics, will help the student to understand the contemporary economic situation by which firms are characterized, and the behavior of variables that have an impact in the firms’ decisions.

The leveling courses will start in March of 2010 and are required for students without the sufficient background, which is determined by the head of the program.
