Background
The International Business program dates back to 1993. It is the leading program in the bilingual iniciative which the University is developing across all of its undergraduate programs. As a professional option, it develops the abilities necessary to deal with the competitive business environment.

Justification
At the beginning of the 1990s Colombia faced emerging challenges as a result of changes to the world economy. At that time it did not have appropriate academic programs to help organizations face the new challenges arising from the opening of the Colombian market to foreign competition. These new conditions require a new kind of professional, one able to understand and guide internationalization processes in a globalized world of open economies.

The International Business undergraduate program is a response to the following factors:

  • The internationalization of the Colombian economy.
  • The need of businesses to adapt to the new competitive environment.
  • Organizational changes.
  • Foreign legal requirements.
  • The importance of technology.
  • Developments in communication and technology.
  • The necessity for better communication skills.

Objectives
The International Business undergraduate program has set out the following objectives with the aim of carrying out its commitments in light of the vision and mission established by the University:

  • Encourage the development of an open and innovative mental attitude in the face of change and differences between human groups.
  • Develop analytical abilities relevant to the economic, technological, political, legal, and social variables in the international environment in which organizations move.
  • Develop negotiation skills to take advantage of opportunities for contributing to the progress of the country and the organization.
  • Promote the learning of a range of languages - after first having mastered English – relevant to the world of business.
  • Develop an ethical attitude in the face of the moral diversity of the international business world.

Language Requirements
Prospective students of International Negotiations must have a minimum score of 75 points in MELICET (Michigan) taken in Lexicom (in Medellín) or in the Colombo Americano (throughout Colombia), if the exam was taken before the 28th of February, 2009. Otherwise they will be required to have a TOEIC score of at least 650, the TOEFL (iBT with a minimum score of 61 points) or another valid examination. For further details click here.
