This research was financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) at the end of 2012, and was developed during the first semester of 2013. In the research process, a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the sustainability conditions of the Metropolitan Region was made. For this purpose, five work dimensions were analyzed: governance, equity, urban efficiency, the environment and green economy.
For each of these dimensions, indicators were elaborated from secondary information, which were compared in two temporary moments to identify trends in the behavior of each dimension.
Finally, the implications of the urban form about some of the identified trends were analyzed and some challenges and opportunities for metropolitan sustainability were raised.
