The EAFIT Community

They can be found on the main campus in Medellín and the institution’s other satellite campuses. They are students, faculty and administrative staff, alumni, senior citizens and children. They are the EAFIT community and the institution’s raison d’être.

Students

They belong to the university’s five schools: Management, Engineering, Sciences and Humanities, Law and Economics and Finance. They are EAFIT students, who not only hail from Medellín and Antioquia, but also from regions such as the Atlantic Coast and the Eje Cafetero (Coffee Growers’ Axis).

The institution has nearly 9,000 undergraduate students and some 2,300 graduate students in its nearly 100 graduate certificate, master’s degree and doctor’s degree programs.

Several years ago, EAFIT also set its sights on building an increasingly elite academic community that contributes to the region’s and country’s progress.

As part of that mission, it carries out efforts such as the scholarship program, which benefits more than 15 percent of the student body.

In addition, students from different countries arrive at the institution every six months via international agreements and student internship programs

Faculty and administrative staff

Faculty credentials are of fundamental importance to the university and therefore more than 85 percent of its 345 full-time professors have a master’s degree or doctorate. In addition, 28 temporary and 640 parttime professors bring their real-world experience to the classroom.

EAFIT also has a highly qualified staff of around 550 administrative employees who facilitate processes and contribute to planning and executing the initiatives that ensure the institution grows and extends its reach in the city, the country and the world.

Alumni

According to the Labor Observatory for Education, EAFIT alumni are among the country’s most employable and best remunerated workers. That reflects society’s confidence in the university’s academic level and shows its programs are relevant and adapt to the country’s changing dynamics.

The university makes its mark on society via its alumni. It is crucial therefore that the institution maintain permanent ties with this public through its Alumni Center, which offers graduates personal and professional development support, job placement assistance and other services.

The Friends of EAFIT Corporation – an entity independent of the university – also offers other opportunities and benefits. Through this center, graduates maintain a link with the university and obtain benefits, including the processing of paperwork related to their professional endeavors.

Children and Senior Citizens

Children inquire, explore and express wonder at the world around them. And EAFIT encourages this process by providing learning opportunities through its Children’s University program, a unique initiative in Colombia that fosters knowledge acquisition among this population.

The program is divided into two phases: Question-Based Encounters, aimed at school children between 7 and 13; and Knowledge Expeditions, geared to children aged 8 to 17. The participants are engaged in the learning process through conversations, recreational activities, reflections and observations.

Seniors also can be part of the EAFIT community and enjoy an intellectually stimulating experience thanks to the Knowledge for Life program, which marked its 10th anniversary in 2011. Intended for retirees, this initiative offers programs, diploma courses and wellbeing and inter-generational courses.
