The group combines resources and environment to achieve scientific and technical excellence. This leads to the development of better products, which are intended to be innovative from a user perspective, as well as from an industrial point of view. To do so, the group takes advantage of the capabilities and skills developed in the context of the Product Design Engineering (PDE) program, which is a mix of "Mechanical Engineering" and "Industrial Design". This defines the Design Engineering approach, and that is why the group is registered to the "Quality and Industrial Technological Development Program" of the "Engineering" area from Colciencias (Colombian Administrative Department of Science, Technology and Innovation).
The group is currently composed by 18 professors/researchers (6 PhD, 12 MSc), with more than 96 journal publications, 159 conference papers, 22 books and book-chapters, 158 tutorships (101 Undergraduate, 51 MSc y 6 PhD) and 31 technological products (Patents, Industrial Designs, Prototypes, etc.). In addition, the group has scientific and consulting collaborations with around 20 local companies. The group has access to specialized laboratories, enablig to work in the following topics of interest: design management & innovation, sustainable mobility, renewable energies applications, modeling/simulation, CAD/CAE/PLM, mechatronics, product development, reverse engineering, virtual/augmented reality, among others. Always combining research with higher education (Master and PhD). Some of the groups’ main capabilities are the application of design methods & tools, application of world-recognized product development methodologies, use of advanced CAD/CAE/PLM technologies, advanced capabilities in prototyping and conceptualization, experience in multidisciplinary and international projects, as well as a solid background in consulting and joint research.
The enhancement and expansion of our developed knowledge to provide feedback to industry, academia and society. Always on a national and international perspective. Research is centered in products and systems innovation, always considering its relationship with people, environment and industrial processes.
