Colombia, the host country.

With a diverse culture, geography and history, Colombia offers unique and authentic travel experiences, magical and unforgettable experiences in a land of startling contrasts and unlimited possibilities.

Tourists from all over the world are beginning to discover Colombia in its fullness, and we are committed to strengthening the hotel infrastructure, to the development of the regions, to safety, to improving services and competitiveness in order to have an inclusive, diverse and innovative industry.

Colombia has become fashionable. It has been established as one of the most prominent developing countries in the international scene due to the size of its economy, its population and its territory; and also, because of its reliable institutions, its stability, its strategic location and its natural wealth and resources. In addition, being a tropical, equatorial and Andean country, Colombia has a great variety of ecosystems.

With its multi-ethnicity and mixture of native, European and African cultures, Colombia offers a range of popular expressions, fairs and festivals, including the Carnival of Barranquilla (Carnaval de Barranquilla), the Carnival of Blacks and Whites (Carnaval de Negros y Blancos) in Pasto, the Flower Fair (Feria de las Flores) in Medellín, Holy Week (Semana Santa) in Popayán, the Vallenato Legend Festival (Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata) in Valledupar, among other celebrations and possibilities.

At home in Medellín

Medellín, a city surrounded by mountains with a spring-like climate all year round, is the capital of the department of Antioquia. It is also a technological, industrial, educational and sports capital in Colombia.

Medellín offers a unique contrast between a lively metropolis, a rapidly and steadily growing city, and a source of lush and vibrant natural resources. Midway between tradition and transformation, the city becomes a big business center under innovation and entrepreneurship schemes.

SITUR, the Tourism Indicators and Statistics System for Antioquia and Medellín, was created in 2005 as a joint proposal by the Secretariat of Productivity and Competitiveness of the Government of Antioquia and the Secretariat of Culture of Citizenship of Medellín.

It aims at unifying and classifying tourism information, supporting decision-making processes, fostering promotion strategies of the city-region as well as strengthening a culture of information. To achieve these goals, effective conclusions are provided regarding the importance of strategies to be implemented, along with a summary of statistics related to tourism offers.

SITUR seeks to meet the need of institutions, users, bodies and organizations requiring statistical information. It intends to become both a useful tool to analyze current circumstances, at any given moment, and a source of information for anyone interested in tourism as well as for all kinds of organisations, public or private, national or international, and academic institutions
