Steadfast Commitment to Quality

The university relies on self-evaluation as a tool for ensuring its work conforms to the highest possible standards. Through this mechanism, EAFIT looks back over past years to review its processes, identify strengths and weaknesses and determine steps needed for improvement.

These processes, a reflection of the university’s permanent and wholehearted commitment to quality, are a voluntary endeavor that reinforces one of its institutional values: excellence. Thanks to those efforts, EAFIT in 2003 became the first private university in Antioquia to receive highquality Institutional Accreditation from the National Education Ministry (MEN).

It also joined a group of Colombian higher education institutions that that year became the first to receive that recognition for their efforts. And the story was repeated in 2010 when the MEN renewed the university’s Institutional Accreditation until 2018.

Just as with Institutional Accreditation, accreditation for the university’s programs is voluntary; in EAFIT’s case, 13 of its 19 undergraduate degree programs have been conferred that recognition by the Colombian government.

In 2012, the university received an international high-quality endorsement from the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training, or Accet, an organization officially recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

That recognition for the programs offered by the Languages and Continuing Education divisions was a unique honor because nearly 95 percent of the centers accredited by that agency are based in North America. EAFIT thus became the first institution in Colombia and second in Latin America to receive this recognition.

In similar fashion, the Spanish for Foreigners program has been included since 2010 in the Cervantes Institute’s Network of Associated Centers, an endorsement of its quality as a center for Spanish-language instruction.

Likewise, several of the university’s administrative offices have quality guarantees. The Admissions and Registrar’s Office, the Administrative and Financial Division and the Human Resources-University Wellbeing Division are certified under ISO 9001-2008
standards; and the Metrology and Soils, Concrete and Pavement laboratories have been endorsed by the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce.
