The Group combines resources and the environment
in order to achieve excellence in science and technology. This leads to the development of better products and services that are innovative from a user and industrial perspective. To achieve this, the Group
leverages the capabilities and skills developed within the Product Design Engineering (PDE) program. This defines the design engineering approach, which is why the group is registered in the "Quality and Industrial Technological Development Program" of the "Engineering" area of the
Minciencias (Colombian Ministry of Science,
Technology and Innovation).
The Design Engineering Research Group (GRID) is composed of lecturers and researchers from the Product and Experiences Design Area of the School of Applied Sciences and Engineering at EAFIT University, in Medellín, Colombia.
The team consists of 14 researchers, 7 with doctoral degrees and 7 with master's degrees. Additionally, we have PhD students, master’s students, undergraduate students, junior researchers, and research staff.
The group has published over 140 journal articles, 210 conference papers, 45 books and book chapters, and has provided 169 tutoring sessions (100 undergraduate, 62 MSc, and 7 PhD) as well as 30 technological products (patents, industrial designs, prototypes, etc.).
Additionally, the group has scientific and consultancy collaborations with approximately 20 local companies.
The Group has access to specialized laboratories that enable it to work on various topics, including design management and innovation, sustainable mobility, renewable energy applications, modeling and simulation, CAD/CAE/PLM, mechatronics, product development, reverse engineering, and virtual/augmented reality.
The main competencies of the group include applying design methods and tools, utilizing globally recognized product development methodologies, utilizing advanced CAD/CAE/PLM technologies, possessing advanced capabilities in prototyping and conceptualization, having experience in multidisciplinary and international projects, and possessing a solid background in consultancy and collaborative research.
We aim to improve and expand our knowledge to provide feedback to industry, academia, and society, both nationally and internationally. Our research focuses on product and system innovation, always considering their relationship with people, the environment, and industrial processes.
