High-level Roundtable Discussion

In 2010, after 3 years of internal study and debate by officials and ministers, APEC leaders committed to taking ‘concrete steps toward realization of a Free Trade Area of the Asia Pacific (FTAAP)’. Furthermore, they stated that ‘An FTAAP should be pursued as a comprehensive free trade agreement by developing and building ongoing regional undertakings, such as ASEAN+3, ASEAN+6, and the Trans-Pacific Partnership, among others. China, as the host for APEC has chosen the goal of advancing regional economic integration as one of its majors themes for 2014. The purpose of this workshop is to discuss the current literature on global value chains and regional trade agreements and how these might inform the future development of an FTAAP.

Economic Cooperation in Asia Pacific: 2014 and Beyond

This year marks 25th anniversary of APEC and the 20th anniversary of the Bogor Goals. China is a significant partner to regional economic is development and cooperation. As host of APEC meetings for 2014, China is committed to “Shapingthe future through Asia Pacific Partnership”, which will be promoted through work under three priorities “Advancing regional Economic Integration,” “Promoting Innovative Development, Economic Reform and Growth” and “Strengthening Comprehensive Connectivity and Infrastructure Development”
As a champion of regional economic cooperation and a founding partner, PECC has an important role to play in helping the APEC policymaking process by providing intellectual support. PECC has been not only working on the agenda items of regional economic cooperation for 2014 but also thinking big of the future of regional cooperation and integration, on the basis of profound understanding of the mandate of APEC and that of PECC per se.

Lanzamiento del libro: Casos exitosos de empresas latinoamercianas en Asia.
El Centro de Estudios Asia Pacífico participó en la elaboración y edición del libro: "Casos exitosos de empresas latinoamercianas en Asia." Este libro relata la experiencia de seis empresas pertenecientes a países de la Alianza del Pacífico que han sido exitosas en Asia, como lo son: Agrosuper: carne de cerdo y Geomar productos de mar de Chile; Ajegroup y el Grupo Intercorp de Perú; Cemex de México y Colcafé de Colombia. El lanzamiento del libro se llevó a cabo en el Swiss Hotel en la Ciudad de Lima el pasado 8 de agosto de 2014. El evento contó con la participación de Jorge Talavera, Rector de la Universidad ESAN y los comentarios de David Ritchie, Director del Instituto de Negocios Internacionales de la Universidad ESAN, Aníbal Sierralta del Centro Internacional de Administración y Comercio y de Juan Carlos Capuñay, Director General para Asia y Oceanía del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores.
Los compiladores del libro son: Oswaldo Morales de la Universidad ESAN, Perú; Julie Kim de la Universidad Diego Portales de Chile y Adriana Roldán, Coordinadora académica del Centro de Estudios Asia Pacífico de la Universidad EAFIT.

A la presentación del libro la antecedió el día 7 de agosto la conferencia: "La Alianza del Pacífico: Posibilidades de Inserción al Asia Pacífico" a cargo de Adriana Roldán, Coordinadora Académica del Centro de Estudios Asia Pacífico. Dicho evento contó con la participación de los estudiantes de la Maestría de Negocios Internacionales de la Universidad ESAN y los valiosos comentarios de David Ritchie, Director del Instituto de Negocios Internacionales de la Universidad ESAN y Maria Rosa Moran del departamento de Administración de la misma Universidad.
Adriana Roldán, Coordinadora académica del Centro de Estudios Asia Pacífico, acompañada de académicos de Chile, Mexico, Perú y Alemania participaron del 1 al 4 de junio en un taller de discusión en la ciudad de Santiago de Chile, en el cual se trataron temas como las barreras políticas y las potencialidades económicas de la Alianza del Pacífico.
